Model: Basic $0/month and 5% on eligible Direct Contracts; Plus $19.99/month, 0% on eligible Direct Contracts, and 100 monthly Connects; additional Connects $0.15 each. Earned or promotional Connects are excluded.
Pricing explained
Upwork currently lists Freelancer Basic at $0 per month and Freelancer Plus at $19.99 per month. Plus includes 100 Connects monthly, proposal insights, job alerts, profile options, and a 0% service fee on eligible Direct Contracts that you bring to Upwork.
Connects are used for proposals and visibility products. Upwork currently lists additional Connects at $0.15 each for both Basic and Plus. One hundred purchased Connects therefore cost $15 before any applicable tax.
Basic currently lists a 5% Direct Contracts rate while Plus lists 0%. Dividing the $19.99 monthly plan price by that five-point saving gives a simplified break-even of $399.80 in eligible monthly Direct Contract earnings. This excludes the value of Connects and other Plus features.
Upwork now lists a 0%–15% freelancer service fee per contract. The exact percentage is shown when you submit a proposal or receive an offer, and it stays fixed once that contract begins.
At the calculator’s 10% example, a $100 payment produces a $10 service fee and $90 in freelancer earnings. Across the published 0%–15% range, the same payment could leave $85–$100 before other costs.
Connects, optional Freelancer Plus, withdrawal methods, currency conversion, and taxes are separate. Client marketplace and contract-initiation fees are also paid by the client, not deducted by this freelancer calculator.
