How to receive digital product payments in China as an individual

For a mainland China individual, the hard part is not accepting a customer card. It is choosing a platform that will approve the seller, support the product, and complete the final payout into an account you can actually use. This guide starts at the bank account and works backward.

Find your payout route
01

Start with the last mile: your Chinese bank account

Write down the payout instrument you already control: for example, a mainland China bank account in your legal name, an Alipay account, or a verified PayPal account that can receive USD. A China Merchants Bank card is a local bank account; it does not by itself create a foreign merchant account. The platform still needs a supported CNY or international bank-transfer route, and your bank may request supporting documents for cross-border receipts.

02

Most direct published route: Waffo Pancake to CNY

Waffo Pancake currently publishes an individual-beneficiary route for China. Its pricing page lists CHN_BANK payouts from CNY 1 to CNY 20,000 per payout and Alipay payouts up to CNY 50,000, with a 1% plus USD 3.50 payout charge and annual beneficiary caps. That makes it the clearest documented direct route for a solo digital-product seller with only a mainland bank account, subject to product review, identity checks, and live onboarding approval.

03

Established alternative: Paddle bank or Payoneer payout

Paddle documents individual and sole-trader verification and pays sellers monthly by wire transfer or Payoneer once the minimum threshold is met. CNY is listed as a payout currency. Before building around it, confirm that your exact individual profile, product, and bank instructions pass Paddle review; currency support does not guarantee that every bank account or seller is accepted.

04

Conditional route: Gumroad through PayPal

Gumroad says sellers in countries without direct bank support are paid through PayPal. Mainland China is not listed in its direct-bank table, so a verified PayPal account able to receive USD is the practical fallback. Gumroad does not support Payoneer or Wise as substitutes and currently requires at least USD 100 before a standard payout. This route is not a fit if your only available instrument is a mainland bank card.

05

Test before sending real traffic

Complete identity and product review first, then use the platform test mode where available. After approval, make one legitimate small customer sale, retain the order and payout records, and verify the final CNY amount that reaches your own account. Do not buy your own product to manufacture a payout test; platforms can treat self-purchases as suspicious. Keep invoices, platform statements, and bank receipts for tax and source-of-funds questions.

06

Use a decision tool instead of guessing

ClearFeeMath's payout route finder ranks routes from the seller country, legal status, income type, and accounts already available. Select Mainland China, Individual, Digital products, and Local bank account to compare the currently documented routes. Recheck the linked official pages before onboarding because availability, limits, and compliance rules can change.

FAQ

Common questions

Can an individual in mainland China receive digital-product payouts without a company?

Some platforms offer individual onboarding. Waffo Pancake explicitly publishes individual-beneficiary CNY payouts for China, while Paddle documents an individual verification path. Approval remains product- and account-specific, and local tax or registration duties still apply.

Can I receive the payout into a China Merchants Bank card?

Potentially, if the platform supports a mainland China bank payout and the account details match your verified legal identity. A CMB account is not a guarantee of platform approval. Confirm the bank fields during onboarding and ask the bank what documents it may require for the incoming payment.

Is PayPal required?

Not for every route. Waffo Pancake publishes direct CNY bank and Alipay payouts, and Paddle documents bank or Payoneer payouts. Gumroad generally needs PayPal when direct bank payout is unavailable in the seller country.

Should I use a foreign address or someone else's account?

No. Use your real identity, tax residence, and an account you are legally entitled to use. Mismatched countries, borrowed accounts, or inaccurate registration details can cause verification failure or frozen payouts.

Which route should I try first?

If you are a mainland China individual selling an eligible digital product with only a local bank account, Waffo Pancake is the clearest published direct route. Paddle is a useful second application. If you already have a verified PayPal account that can receive USD, Gumroad becomes a possible fallback.
